Steps You Can Take to Protect Your Car Against Break-Ins

Having your car broken into is one of the most stressful experiences any driver can go through. You not only feel scared and violated but you’re potentially faced with a huge financial burden from having to replace any stolen items and repairing any broken windows. Because this can be such a huge burden, most drivers are definitely going to want to try and avoid car break-ins as much as they can. And while there’s no way to guarantee you will never experience a break-in, there are some steps you can take to prevent it from happening to you.

Lock Your Doors and Roll Up The Windows

While this may seem like an obvious first step, you’d be surprised how many break-ins occur simply because a car door was left unlocked, as many potential thieves won’t want to go through the trouble of breaking a window to get into your vehicle. So lock your doors and roll up your windows to make sure your car has some protection!

Park In a Covered and Well-Lit Area

The best and safest place to park your car to protect yourself against a break-in is in a covered spot in a garage or parking deck, away from the street. If there is only street parking available to you, you can still get extra protection by parking in a well-lit area.

Hide All of Your Valuables

It’s important to always keep things like phones, wallets, and laptops with you at all times, but there’s going to be an occasion where you need to store things in your car. When you do this, make sure that your valuables are hidden from view in either the trunk or backseat, and are covered with a blanket, towel, or other covering for more protection. If a potential thief can’t see anything valuable in your car, it’s less likely to be broken into.
